Why did Jesus come?

Jesus came to set captives free, to testify of the truth, and to display the love God has towards you. He accomplished all of this by His death on the cross. We, who were slaves to sin, have been set free and are no longer in bondage. He testified of the truth throughout His time here on earth. At the cross, Jesus provided the only way into heaven (Acts 4:12). You see, we can never be good enough on our own to earn our salvation. The Bible says that all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Only by the blood of Jesus Christ can one be saved because He is the only one who has made an acceptable sacrifice to God for sin. He did it all because of His great love for us. The Bible tells us in Romans 5:8 that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. Think about that: while we were still sinners! Jesus didn’t look down and say, “I will die for that one over there…He is a good man.” Rather, in His mercy He looked into the worst parts of your life - your biggest struggles, your worst decisions - and desired to deliver you from it. He came down and died for you in your sinful state so that you would not have to pay for those mistakes. If you repent from your sin and believe in Him, you will be saved. This is the love of God that surpasses all understanding!

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
